Welcome to Day 5 of Bout of Books!  I hope you’re all having as much fun as I am. Are you on track with your goals? Been doing lots of challenges? I hope you’re ready for a super fun Bout of Books challenge today – Create A Story.

The rules are simple:

  1. Open your current book to the last page you read.
  2. Using the last word of every line, create a poem or story. You must use every word (but they do not have to be in order), and you may add punctuation as necessary. If a word is split between the end of the line and the beginning of the next one, you may choose whether or not to use it.
  3. Create a post (or tweet or video) that showcases your masterpiece. If you don’t have anywhere else to post it, you can add it as a comment here and use the comment link as your entry.
  4. Add it to the linky on this post.

Example:  Page 199 of Revealed by P.C. and Kristin Cast. My words are: for, name, What, repeated, said, lesson, him, but, here, one, the, gown, together, are, he, it, chest, look, her, cruel, me, his, together, it, was, body, punish, and to.

My story:

His body was said to punish; the lesson repeated cruel.
What name but one, together for me.
He, him, it. Together are speaking here.
Her gown, chest – before it – look behind.

It’s a bit like magnetic poetry in the way that it can get nonsensical – but it’s so much fun! As you can tell, I really got stuck on that last line with the leftover words I had. But I still created something. And now I want to go dig out my old magnetic poetry tins!

This challenge will be open for 24 hours (from midnight to midnight CST), and one lucky participant (who is also signed up for Bout of Books) will be randomly selected to win:

The text is small in this particular copy so it’s a long one haha
Taken from page 36 of Northanger Abbey

    You cannot respectably light this,
    These spirits found you
    surrounding goodness,
    More were introduced, therefore
    the first agreeable party

    Dear People
    You wretched
    So shy
    Very attractive
    And interested …
Her pretension was near, upon horse back

Could, would’ve been me … head

The last words were the hardest but I’m quite impressed with what I got

First, anytime I see the word “Abbey” I think of Downton Abbey.

I love your story though. 🙂

Words from p. 63 of Paula Takes a Risk by Randi Sherman.

Disgusted, I change the skeptical account to someone after her own adventure.
Up, down, anything on hand, minutes short lately.
She is right – we ballpoint it!
Very perfect of life being anything fun!

30%, Highland Surrender by Tracy Brogan
My words are: as, we, sigh, there, not, a, future, just, asked, Simon, freedom, that, Sinclairs, ten, our, from, the, good, when, owes, dead, rule

My story, it makes no sense :))
Simon, not from the Sinclairs, asked:
“Our freedom, a future just as we rule there. Ten dead sigh when that owes good.”

This was really hard, but so much fun!
Here is mine from page 268 in Dragonflight.

The hundred years marks the table, we slammed. Lessa’s mind is going, missing, left, but they see our cautious help. Up ahead we can shake briskly between this intermediate, imbalanced evening. We turn alive…to die. Did we?

    Thanks for hosting!

The last page I read was page 180 of “The Most of Nora Ephron.” The book is a collection of her work and I’m reading her novel “Heartburn.” Here is my story:

“We are always moving back,” he said. I married for passion, with lesson, and that is fundamental to understand. Decisions? Redemption is of a start, or else irritation. Primal differences with yourself? For I saw in your mind was awful.

This was a lot of fun!
My poem is created from a page in The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth Laban.

Many wrote, suddenly, certainly, to something,
    The windy day was me.
At time, Captain LaGuardia no-staring, wasn’t lowered.
    Seats were gone.
    Move on.

    Fallout by mrs. Ellen Hopkins.

My words are: (time, taco, reminded, me, toward, head, whats, say, grandfather, aunt, parents, too, and know)
    I made a story! Enjoy.

Angie was so exited TOO be going on a date with Marc! She had to ask her GRANDFATHER for permission first though. She had been staying at her grandfathers place for the last 7 months. Since her mom was a wreck and needed sometime to herself. After Angie’s PARENTS had divorced last April. When he said yes she jumped up an down! She then began to call her best friend casey and her AUNT cara. She asked her aunt cara if she could drive her and casey to the northport mall, to buy an outfit for her date. Let’s HEAD TOWARD level 2 section b2. Okay I said to aunt cara. The two girls went to the dressing room to try on 5 dresses each. Hey I SAY to aunt cara how do you like this one on me. Ehh I don’t know Angie. WHATS wrong with it? I think it looks beautiful just like Marc. It’s not that it’s ugly. It just doesn’t seem like the dress. I KNOW what about that light blue one with sparkles on it! Okay I say. I take the dress and go pack in the dressing room. I take my TIME putting on the dress. I go outside near the three way mirror where aunt cara is standing. She has tears running down her eyes. You look so beautiful Angie! That dress REMINDED ME of your mom when she was going on her first date. Thank you I say. We check out and leave the mall. I’m so hungry. I know casey says! Why don’t we stop at TACO BELL.

    • Mandi Kaye

I love that you took the instructions in a completely different direction than everyone else. Great job! (And now I want Taco Bell).
